Jonathan is a Black Belt and the head instructor. Competing at top level tournaments and training with the best black belts in the world he brings techniques and style to incorporate into his classes. Since starting his Jiu Jitsu career under Alliance, one of the strongest Brazilian Jiu Jitsu families in the world, Jonathan has made three Brazilian Jiu Jitsu world champions, including one 2x world champion. Every year he continues to lead success with his team at top level competitions winning IBJJF Opens and International tournaments as well as local state and national tournaments.
Under Alliance Jonathan received his Blue belt from Rubens "Charles" Cobrinha his Purple belt from Romero "Jacare" Cavalcanti, his Brown belt and Black Belt from Lucas Lepri.

Hope Uzcategui is the manager at Alliance Fitness Center and a brown belt under Jonathan Uzcategui. She teaches Muay Thai, women's strength and conditioning classes and helps instruct adult BJJ classes as well as the kids and teen BJJ program.

Jeff Fritz has lived in Wilmington, NC, since 1986 when he began his studies at UNCW. He earned his degree in English in 1991. Jeff's martial arts experience dates back to the late '80s when he was a competitive boxer and kick boxer. He earned his black belt in karate in 1995 with a heavy focus on grappling and submissions. In November of 2011 Jeff began training with Jonathan Uzcategui and he earned his purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Lucas Lepri in March of 2013 and was promoted to brown belt by Jonathan Uzcategui in 2016. Jeff has two children that train BJJ, Abigail, 10, and Ian, 9. Jeff's primary focus is on helping kids to learn BJJ for increased confidence, improved self-esteem, and self-defense.
Jimmy Lechleider has been training with Jonathan since 2009, but has been training Judo since 1996. He began training in Charlotte, North Carolina and moved to Santa Rosa, California to train under Sensei Terry Kelly for four years before moving to Wilmington. In addition to his Judo qualifications, Lechleider received his blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from Alliance black belt Humberto Borges in 2010 and his purple belt from Lucas Lepri in 2013.
Lechleider is a certified Judo Instructor through the USJA holding rank of Sandan, 3rd degree black belt, under Sensei Pat Szrejter of Matthews, North Carolina. As a result of Lechleider’s qualifications, Uzcategui Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy is a registered USJA Judo club under the name of Cape Fear Judo, allowing students to receive internationally recognized Judo ranks in addition to BJJ.
Lechleider also holds the rank of 3rd degree black belt in Tae Kwan Do Ji Do Kwan under Head Master Bill Beamer of Mount Airy, NC under C.K. Kim’s Alliance. He received his Shodan in 1994 under Master Instructor Malcolm Morris of Charlotte, NC.
Brett is a purple belt under Jonathan Uzcategui helping instruct adult and kids BJJ classes.
